Eric C. Weiss, D.M.D.
A Board-Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, Dr. Eric C. Weiss has been practicing implant dentistry and periodontics since 1992. After obtaining his Bachelor of Arts in biology, Dr. Weiss remained at the University of Pennsylvania to earn his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD). He then completed a residency in periodontics at Temple University.
In addition to being a Fellow of both the American College of Dentists and the International Team for Implantology, Dr. Weiss is an attending periodontist in Newark Beth Israel Medical Center’s Department of Dentistry, Division of Periodontics. He is also past president of the Hudson County Dental Society as well as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Weiss is also an adjunct professor at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. As a proponent of continuing education, Dr. Weiss lectures extensively on topics relating to implant dentistry and periodontics.
Blair A. Schachtel, D.M.D.
Dr. Blair A. Schachtel is a highly trained and experienced dentist offering general, cosmetic, restorative, and implant dental care for the entire family. A graduate of Tulane University, Dr. Schachtel earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1996. He then served as Chief Resident at Beth Israel Hospital from 1996-1997, during which time he received the Outstanding Dentistry Award presented by the Academy of Operative Dentistry.
Dr. Schachtel is affiliated with the Newark Beth Israel Hospital in Newark and St. Barnabas Hospital in Livingston, and he has been named to the “Guide to America’s Top Dentists” by the Consumers’ Research Council of America in 2011, 2012, and 2013. Above all, he is committed to providing an unprecedented level of care and personalized attention to ensure every patient achieves optimal oral health and a beautiful smile.
Jonathan Mendia, D.M.D.
Dr. Jonathan Mendia is an experienced dental anesthesiologist proficient in providing general anesthesia and IV sedation to patients of all ages. A native of New Jersey, Dr. Mendia obtained his undergraduate degree from Rutgers University before earning his Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He then went on to complete a prestigious two-year Dental Anesthesiology post-doctoral residency at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). During this time, he completed 1,200 hospital-based general anesthesia cases and received training for the administration of all anesthesia levels to pediatric patients, adult patients, special needs patients, and more.
Dr. Mendia is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Dental Anesthesia at Rutgers University School of Dental Medicine, and he is certified in Basic Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). In addition to giving lectures and providing continuing education courses on sedation and emergencies in the dental office, he maintains active membership in the American Dental Association, the New Jersey Dental Association, and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology.
Jeffrey Poirier, D.M.D.
Dr. Jeffrey Poirier is a skilled general dentist who has been in practice since 1998. Originally from Massachusetts, he received his Bachelor of Science from Saint Joseph’s College in Standish, ME before earning his Doctor of Medical Dentistry from the Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia, PA. Prior to relocating to New Jersey, Dr. Poirier owned and managed a highly successful dental practice for ten years in Fitchburg, MA, and he later served as a part-time faculty member of Harvard University School of Dentistry.
At our practice, Dr. Poirier offers a comprehensive assortment of general dentistry treatments and services, and he is devoted to ensuring each patient receives the highest quality of care possible.
Sharon Jacobson, D.M.D.
Dr. Jacobson graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry with a Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree and from Queens College with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology – both with honors.
Dr. Jacobson is a member of the American Dental Association, New Jersey Dental Association, Passaic County Dental Society and the Passaic Park Dental Study Group. She has extensive experience in working with and caring for children. If you need a dental exam for your child by a caring, warm and gentle dentist, Dr. Jacobson will put both you and your child at ease during your dental visit.
Dr. Jacobson is married and has 4 children. Her personal interests include reading and classical music.
Howard C. Kotkin, D.D.S.
Dr. Howard C. Kotkin, affectionately known to our patients as “Dr. Howie”, is an experienced pediatric dentist whose area of expertise includes the treatment of infants, children, and adolescents, as well as patients who have special needs. After receiving his Bachelor of Science from Muhlenberg College, Dr. Howie obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Maryland Dental School. He then completed his pediatric dentistry postdoctoral training while serving as Chief Resident at the Monmouth Medical Center in Long Branch, NJ and the Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY.
Renowned for his exceptional skill and compassionate care for children, Dr. Howie has five times been named a “Top Pediatric Dentist” by New Jersey Monthly magazine. Additionally, New Jersey Family recognized him as one of “NJ’s Favorite Kids’ Docs” in 2011.
Joel Doner, D.D.S.
Our board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Joel Doner, manages a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth and facial regions. Dr. Doner practices a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with expertise in wisdom tooth removal. He can also diagnose and treat facial pain, facial injuries and TMJ disorders and perform a full range of dental implant procedures.
Dr. Doner is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He graduated from the Temple University School of Dentistry with a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degree and Graduate School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Doner has a private practice of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in West Orange.
Mark Schachman, D.M.D.
Our board-certified endodontist, Dr. Mark Schachman, offers treatment to patients with problems in the pulp of their tooth, such as root canal therapy. He graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Dental School with his Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree and then practiced general and restorative dentistry for two years. Dr. Schachman continued to New York University College of Dentistry for post-graduate residency training in Endodontics for two years. He has specialized in this area at his private practice since 1993.
Dr. Schachman is a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics and is the former District Director of the American Association of Endodontics. He acts as a clinical attending in Endodontics at both Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Morristown Medical Center, where he lectures and provides clinical instruction on endodontic therapy.
